About Fellowship
In June 2008, DCSE launched an ambitious program focused on propagating social entrepreneurship. The Deshpande Fellowship Program (DFP) is an opportunity for young social leaders to be trained in the knowledge, skills and practices necessary for success in the development sector.
Because the DFP values applied learning, the curriculum includes both an intense classroom component as well as incorporates interactive activities into every module. Fellows regularly receive instruction from scholars and professionals who are top in their fields but also engage in exercises that take them out of the classroom and into the community. On a weekly basis, Fellows interact with both entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs who share their stories of entrepreneurship, visions for the future and advice to achieving success.
The Foundation has high expectations for the Fellows. Fellows are consistently pushed to learn, achieve and develop personally, ultimately realizing their leadership potential. Fellows are assessed throughout the program so that staff members can develop and continuously update individualized English language and computer literacy plans as necessary.
Fellows will learn the fundamentals of launching a social enterprise and will receive ample guidance as they develop their own personal plans for creating social change. The DFP ensures that participants gain a full understanding of the curriculum and can easily apply the fundamentals to their own enterprise at the conclusion of the Fellowship.
